BPH can lead to various urinary symptoms, as well as bladder, urinary tract, or kidney problems, and tends to gradually worsen over time. Signs and symptoms of BPH to look out for are bladder pressure, frequent urination, difficulty starting urination, inability to urinate, frequent urination at night, and urinary urgency.
If you feel discomfort or pressure in your lower abdomen you may be experiencing bladder pressure due to BPH.
If you find yourself going to the bathroom more than normal, with less time in between visits you may have frequent urination due to BPH.
The most common symptom of BPH is urinary urgency, when you feel a strong urge to go, but have difficulty holding it to get to the bathroom.
Untreated BPH can cause urinary retention, which is the inability to urinate or empty the bladder. Even when you strain to urinate, nothing comes out.
BPH may cause frequent urination at night, feeling the need to urinate more often or more urgently at night.
BPH may cause intermittent urination where you may experience a weak urination stream or difficulty urinating.
Take the BPH symptom Assessment! Find out if you are a candidate for PAE.
PAE is a safe and effective treatment option for men with BPH and, like other minimally invasive procedures, offers several advantages over traditional surgery. The average prostate size is seen to shrink by approximately 30%. PAE is an outpatient procedure, with no hospital stay and a shorter recovery. There is a low risk of sexual side effects or incontinence. You will experience virtually no blood loss and minimal pain and swelling. There are no limits on prostate size, urethral narrowing, or bladder capacity.
GAE is a minimally invasive procedure that typically allows for a quick recovery. You can generally return to light activities as soon as one week after the procedure, but it’s best to refrain from high-impact activities for at least two weeks. It’s common to experience some knee discomfort immediately after the procedure, but this discomfort typically diminishes over the course of two weeks as the effects take hold.
If you are experiencing bladder pressure, it’s essential to schedule an appointment with one of our affiliated prostate specialists. Our affiliated physicians will perform a thorough examination to assess the cause of your bladder pressure to determine if you have BPH, or are at risk in the future.
